Wilmy Winter

commission

The economy must be getting better because, for some reason people are calling about getting graphic design work and although I would love to just paint, design work pays much better. So I have been trying to balance it all out with the commissions.

On another note, I received a really nice letter from someone I met at the Farmer's Market last summer. She had said I inspired her to start painting again and now she is getting commissions and doing really well.
I wanted to share her website:

I'm putting on a show Friday night at the coffee house.
Here is the invite for those who can attend:

The Thief

12" x 12"
oil on panel

Just got back from Atlanta today and had a really great time. Saw lots of amazing artwork and was very inspired. We ended up going up to Asheville afterward to see some galleries and then on to Charlotte for one night.

It was a great get away, but I thought about painting the whole time and was anxious to get back. Before leaving, I had started this painting for an owl show at a shop downtown, then finished it tonight.

I'll let you know when the show is.

Got a lot of commissions in the works!

Here it is with the frame:

Three Amigos on Vacation

12" x 12"
oil on panel

This is a commission from a RFPP on Facebook. I did a painting of two of these dogs and he wanted another of all three together, I'm also doing another commission for him of a friend's dog for a gift.

I have been trying to take it easy for the last few days . The show was so much work getting all the paintings ready, marketing, everything. I ended up having a panic attack, so I figured it was time to take it down a notch.

The show did go very well with lots of attendees, some sales and getting a lot of positive response from the new paintings,  "Peace" and "Queen Naomi".

I'm going to the American Craft Counsel show in Atlanta new week and absolutely thrilled! If you ever get the chance, go! It is so inspiring and all the artists are the best in their craft. I can not stress to you how incredible this show is.

I will be having another show March 26th at the coffee house with abstract Photography from Guy Pushe'e and maybe some other artists.

So much for taking it easy!

Paintings Done & Art Show

16" x 20"
oil on canvas panel

24" x 36"

Well, I have been working my tail off getting ready for the show Friday, trying to finish some paintings that have been half-way started - I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel! Still working on one more for the show, then I will be done with the painting part. Still have to frame, brochures, card, etc.

Recently, I developed an aversion to painting on the texture of canvas, so I decided after my next commission, to only paint on wood panel or masonite. It difficult to get detail, time consuming - takes more paint, feels awkward, etc. Maybe large paintings will still be on canvas - not sure yet.

Also, I have switched to distilled turpentine from mineral spirits - not sure why I didn't do it sooner. It's a much better experience and I don't feel drugged after painting all day. Maybe less headaches?

Hope to see you Friday night!

Art Show!!

It's been a busy year already!

I'm having an Art Show Feb 26th at the new Wrightsville Bean & Company Cafe 6 - 9pm. I'll be showing about 5 new paintings, some Random Facebook Pet Paintings, "Peace" and a large painting that has never been shown anywhere that I consider to be one of my best.

I hope that you can come... see some art, have a coffee or some hot chocolate, listen to some music, sit awhile (still working on the music part).

There will be four other studios open that night to tour in the area.

Tea Cup

12" x 12"

I was at an art show the other night and someone had mentioned making a pact to do some kind of art every day in February - kind of like the "daily painting" idea, but with other forms of art. There was a sculptor, jewelry designer, me and another painter and I thought it would be fun to do this with a group of artists. So I put together a Facebook group called Wilmington One-A-Days for February. Since last I checked there are 92 members with new posts everyday. I'm so impressed with the turn out!

Anyone can join - they don't have to be from Wilmington. It's open to anyone who wants to commit to doing something creative everyday. Here is the info I put on the group...
This site is for anyone who wants to create and post a new piece of art everyday for the month of February. Any art counts... painting, sculpture, photography, drawing, cooking, knitting, hair cutting, whatever. It doesn't have to be a masterpiece - this is just an exercise of inspiration. When you post please indicate the day, name & medium. Posting starts Feb 1st.

Also I'm going to be in an art show with some other artists - here is the info -

Turns out the painting I posted last of the dog swimming is the #1 Flat Coated Retriever in the world for dock diving and in the top 5 for dock diving in the country! Pretty impressive!
