Painting Downtown

Here is my setup from yesterday at the Dog Days Downtown 2010. I set up in front of the aMuse Artisanal Finery and just had such a great time painting and Jan was such a great host! I'll post what I painted in a few days when it's done.

I got my first proof of the book and after a few adjustment I have put in my order. Now, hopefully they will be here by the show.

Dandelions in Seagrove Pottery Cup

8" x 10"
oil on wood

I wanted to do a daily painting today and try out some new brushes. These dandelions grow everywhere and are so pretty - they close up at night then reopen in the morning.

This cup is from a little town in NC called Seagrove that is know for their pottery. There are studios everywhere and they even give you a map to visit all of them. A lot of the pieces are wheel thrown and perfect. I found this cup at one of the studios and because it was hand made and imperfect, it really stuck out. I think I paid, maybe $5 and and because of it's imperfectness, it was perfect for me.

Lucy

I posted this commission a few weeks ago, but had to promptly take it down because it was a surprise for the recipient. Now that it has been gifted, I can post it again.

This painting is the culmination of all the past year's hard work. I feel it is my best work yet.

Electronic Painting

I just got back from a vacation in Florida and decided before the trip not to take any paints because i wanted this to be a real vacation with nothing nagging at me to do. It was very peaceful, relaxing and I missed painting, which is the goal along with the peaceful relaxing stuff.

I did bring my Ipad though and found a great app called Sketchbook Pro which is a lot like finger painting on a computer screen, well, it's not a lot like it... it is!

Here is a Modigliani painting I copied on the Ipad. It took about as long if I were to do it by hand on paper, but without the mess and i could fix mistakes with a  swipe of the screen. Technology never ceases to amaze me!
Think about it, when Modigliani did this painting, computers weren't even a dream and here I am reproducing this painting on one of the most advances pieces of technology out there and I can even answer my email about how to change colors easily with the developer, check my calendar and map out my trip back with it!
