Dakota

Dakota

Sold

About 30 years ago when I was in college, I borrowed something from a friend and it was stolen in my possession. Unable to pay her because I was always broke in those days, I never forgot how understanding she was and I have always wanted to repay her for her kindness. When I found her on Facebook, I saw that she had two dogs so I decided to paint her this portrait. I'm so happy to give her a portrait of her baby, Dakota. Thank you Samedar - after all these years!!

International Artist Day

October 25, International Artist Day, is to honor the contribution artists have and are making to society. Use this day as the opportunity to take an artist to lunch, buy that painting that's been haunting you for months, visit a gallery, go to the symphony or participate in something creative that is “outside the box” of your day to day life.

For International Artist Day I am honoring the well know painter Vincent Van Gogh's "Self Portrait with Bandaged Ear" with my own spin...

Although everyone knows the name Van Gogh, it's sad to say that during his life, he was pretty much unknown and passed over, but despite this he continued to paint feverishly driven by a passion the he himself probably did not understand. I understand this - It is who we are, all we are. We HAVE to because it is what we do and I believe the world is a better place because of this.

Landscape Challenge #12

I love the way this painting turned out and will probably paint it again. This scene is one of my favorites on Wrightsville Beach - It's rough and full of waves on one side and calm on the other - so peaceful - I've wanted to paint it for awhile.

Landscape Challenge #7

12" x 9"
oil on canvas
purchase

I decided to change things out a bit and try a palette knife. Well, part is with a palette knife and part is with a spatula. No, not the kitchen spatula, one I purchased just in case… for situations just like this. You never know when you'll need a spatula for a painting when nothing else is working.
My motto: "be prepared" and I certainly am.

Landscape Challenge... Day 1

9" x 12"

A friend of mind asked if I was up for a challenge… of course, I said "Sure!".
So I am doing 30 landscapes in 30 days.
This is the first.

Thanks Amelia for the "Push"!
