"Three Shibas" Commission

24" x 18"
oil on wood
Sold to a collector in North Carolina

This commission is of three Shiba Inu dogs which is an ancient breed from Japan and was originally bred for hunting in mountainous terrain in wild shrubs. They are very intelligent and are a great size, about 15" tall. Shiba Inu is sometimes translated as "Little Brushwood DogIt is one of the few ancient dog breeds still in existence in the world today.

The four smaller pets in the frames are of dogs that have past. The client wanted to honor all of her dogs, past and present and when I finished this, I felt it had kind of a "shrine" feeling to it.

Pet Portraits Clinic this Saturday!

I wanted to let you know I will be doing a pet portrait clinic downtown, Wilmington which basically consists of me demonstrating how a portrait is painted, answering questions, etc. If you are interested in having a portrait done and don't have photos for me to use for reference, I will be taking photos as well.

Please drop by, bring your pet and have a delicious cup of coffee and a sweet treat from SUGAR inside the bookstore.

A Saving Angel...

10" x 8"
oil on panel

I had the honor of painting a true hero. Last year an artist friend's house caught fire. Reba saved the family by barking and waking everyone up to get to safety. Sadly, Reba passed away in the fire. She will be missed by all. Somehow I feel I got to know her by painting this little remembrance.
You were a good dog, Reba and you will not be forgotten.
