PAINT MY DOG! Series #31

Dunkin
8" x 10"
oil on canvas
sold

"Duncan came to my vet through a Golden Retriever Rescue in N. CA. My vet asked if I could foster him. She knew I would take care of him and I lived close to her practice and that was a plus because Duncan needed lots of Medical Attention. He had been abandoned in a home that was foreclosed on, Best guess is that he was there 2 weeks without food or water and he was tied to a post. He pulled so hard on the rope he was tied up on that he hurt his neck & shoulders, his hips were damaged probably from being kicked or beaten. He could barely walk when he came to me, but with lots of love and care he came farther than anyone imagined, as you can see from these pictures. That Boy had a Family and a Place to call Home and he lived each day to the fullest, every day was "The Best Day Ever!" for Duncan!"

The Daily Dog - Thirteen

8" x 10"
oil on canvas

Once in a while, when I'm painting, Chumley will make his way up through the cords and tables and look up at me as if to say "Did you see that?" as if something spectacular just happened and I totally missed it. Unfortunately, my idea of spectacular does not jive with Chumley's. He'll usually sit there for a while, get bored, chuff and walk off to go look at the spectacular event going on that I obviously am too boring to understand.

On another note, My Gallery is having a Mother's Day Show next Friday - I will have all "The Daily Dog" paintings up for display and maybe Chumley! It'll be the first time anyone has seen them - I'm so excited! Here is the poster - Hope to see you!

"Three Shibas" Commission

24" x 18"
oil on wood
Sold to a collector in North Carolina

This commission is of three Shiba Inu dogs which is an ancient breed from Japan and was originally bred for hunting in mountainous terrain in wild shrubs. They are very intelligent and are a great size, about 15" tall. Shiba Inu is sometimes translated as "Little Brushwood DogIt is one of the few ancient dog breeds still in existence in the world today.

The four smaller pets in the frames are of dogs that have past. The client wanted to honor all of her dogs, past and present and when I finished this, I felt it had kind of a "shrine" feeling to it.

Pink Lady

7" x 5"
oil on panel

Chumley, my dog's most favorite treat in the whole world is an apple. He absolutely goes crazy for them. I usually give him red delicious, but started to wonder about other varieties. Because we always have apples in the fridge I started enjoying them with meals, in salads and cooking with them and I realized I had only tried one and why? because there are so many types to choose from and I thought, maybe the name "red delicious" just seemed like it would be just red and really delicious, but how was I to know? Maybe there is one out there more delicious.

So I decided to compare, went to the grocery and bought as many varieties I could find. After apologizing to the checkout girl for having to scan and weight each one, I took them home and tried three at a time. I found they all are so different and wonderful, except for Granny Smith, which is just sour and bitter, Chumley even had a tough time with that one.

So far, I narrowed the best down to Honey Crisp, Jazz & Pink Lady (Cripps Pink). I'm still trying new ones and if I find a better one than these, I'll let you know.

By the way, Chumley is REALLY enjoying this experiment.
