Squirrel Watch

"Squirrel Watch"
16" x 20"
oil on canvas

This is the second painting in the Gretel series.

I visited my sister and Gretel last year and absolutely fell in love with this dog. It took awhile (after a lot of chicken treats) for her to accept me as ok, but after that we were buds and I was able to take about a hundred photos of her.

From a painters perspective, she is a stunning model, perfect color for my palette, flowing lines, great profile... it helps that I am a freak about dachshunds... just don't tell my terriers :)

As you have guessed, I am over the moon giddy!!

See this amazing book here...

Fuzz

"Fuzz"
12" x 12"
oil on canvas
private collection

After we closed the gallery, a store moved in next to Tavernays call Fuzz Love. At first I thought it was a strange name, but after seeing the store and meeting the owners, it couldn't be named anything else! Now, I have a big new wardrobe of super comfy clothes. As a matter of fact I'm wearing one of their dresses right now.

They are a traveler, surfer, laid-back type. They always seem to be in a good mood and they have the sweetest pups that come an visit. One of the pups was found on the side of the road in mexico nearly gone and now she is the happiest dog ever! They are good people and we are so happy to have them as neighbors.

This is a portrait of Fuzz, who the store is named after. She passed awhile ago and she must have been a super special pup because all the stores are named after her.

Dakota

Dakota

oil on canvas
Sold

About 30 years ago when I was in college, I borrowed something from a friend and it was stolen in my possession. Unable to pay her because I was always broke in those days, I never forgot how understanding she was and I have always wanted to repay her for her kindness. When I found her on Facebook, I saw that she had two dogs so I decided to paint her this portrait. I'm so happy to give her a portrait of her baby, Dakota. Thank you Samedar - after all these years!!

Charleston Carriage Horse

Charleston Carriage Horse
20" x 20"
oil  on canvas
view in my store

For my birthday, I recently spent a few days in Charleston, SC with my mom visiting galleries eating at nice restaurants and shopping. For the first time I went on a walking tour and I highly recommend Charleston Footprints - I learned so much about Charleston's history and traditions... a big tradition in Charleston are the carriage rides. While I'm not a fan and I always feel sorry for the horses, to me it is an inescapable classic scene, so I thought I would honor the work horse and paint my version of the Charleston Carriage Horse.

I snapped a photo of Chumley this morning and wanted to just disappear for awhile in a painting of him. I've had a few friends lose their pups lately and I'm just so grateful Chums is still around after all the close calls he's had. It does my heart good just to see his face every morning.

Little Paint Sketch

Oil on paper

I've had this little shopping bag hanging around my studio for awhile now and I was itching to do something simple, so I decided to seize the moment and paint Frida on it.
I really like it!

Marty

Oil on paper on heavy board
View in my shop

Sorry to say, I haven't been feeling too much like painting lately. Maybe a little burned out, but today out of nowhere, I decided to paint this little guy. He reminded me of Marty Feldman who I thought was hilarious when I was a kid.

He is painted on decorative paper and mounted on a heavy board - one of my favorite mediums.

Fading Canna

Fading Canna

oil on canvas
view in my shop

I've been watching a cluster of these red Cannas for awhile now. I love the deep purples in the stem rising up to bright, bright red.

Once you cut them, it's a pretty quick demise so I had taken some photos against a dark cardboard background to paint later.

I love the mood of this painting.

Coffee Shop Flowers

12" x 12"
oil on canvas

I guess you could say I'm taking a break.
Maybe it's spring fever, Maybe I'm just tired, but lately I just haven't felt like painting.
This morning I just HAD to paint something. So, I saw these little roses in a little coffee shop the other day and snapped the photo with my phone and decided I would paint these.

Show Update...

8" x 10"
sold

Remember the show I was going to have in September? Well, it's been pushed back awhile because of "life stuff". I'm still working on the show, but I've had some other emergencies come up that need my attention. It's still going to happen, just not when I thought it would.

Here is a portrait that I did in the beginning of the year.
