Zippo

5" x 7"
oil on gessoboard

$100

This is this week's challenge painting. The challenge was created my one of my favorite daily painters Micheal Naples. If you get a chance, go see some of his work - it really is amazing.

The challenge was to paint the photo provided using only Burnt Sienna, Ultramarine Blue and Titanium White. I really loved this challenge because recently I took black off my palette, which was a BIG step for me. I found that I just didn't need it, it was "drabbing up" my paintings and the richness of the other colors was enough. I also found that when the paintings dried, I was get much more contrast that was wanted. It was for me, a kind of "taking the training wheels off" event and I was o.k.

Gracie

7" x 6"
oil on wood panel

Today I woke up feeling motivated, which has not been the case in the past few days. Seems that there was a part two of this cold which involved a lot of fatigue, allergy type symptoms and odd sleep schedule.

Being sick just isn't what it used to be!

A Rose is a Rose

5" x 8"
oil on wood panel

I'm not a big fan of painting roses, but I am a big fan of a challenge. This is the challenge painting of the week.

It's not a very good photo. I have had the flu for the past few days so I have diminished capacities right now. I had a window of feeling better so I painted this, but now I think the aches and chills have returned. Off to bed!

Just a Shell

10" x 8"
oil on gessopanel
$85 plus $8 shipping

I have painted this type of shell a few times before because I really love the splash of purple with just a hints of yellow and rust and also the form of these clam shells are very intriguing to me.

I did this as a study for a very large painting that I'm getting ready to start.

8 Egg Study

16" x 20"
oil on canvas

I did a little exercise today for a challenge blog where you take an object and you paint 8 quick 10 minute paintings on it. Since I made egg sandwiches for breakfast, I chose egg shells. They are numbered first to last.

This is a great exercise in seeing color and value. I found it to be quite rewarding.

Big Red Pear

24" x 24"
oil  on canvas

I had done this painting a few months ago in a 12" x 12" size and had it up on my Etsy site. Someone liked it so much they commissioned me to do a larger size!
That's one way to sell off Etsy!
