Charleston Carriage Horse

For my birthday, I recently spent a few days in Charleston, SC with my mom visiting galleries eating at nice restaurants and shopping. For the first time I went on a walking tour and I highly recommend Charleston Footprints - I learned so much about Charleston's history and traditions... a big tradition in Charleston are the carriage rides. While I'm not a fan and I always feel sorry for the horses, to me it is an inescapable classic scene, so I thought I would honor the work horse and paint my version of the Charleston Carriage Horse.

Chums

I snapped a photo of Chumley this morning and wanted to just disappear for awhile in a painting of him. I've had a few friends lose their pups lately and I'm just so grateful Chums is still around after all the close calls he's had. It does my heart good just to see his face every morning.

Little Paint Sketch

Oil on paper

I've had this little shopping bag hanging around my studio for awhile now and I was itching to do something simple, so I decided to seize the moment and paint Frida on it.
I really like it!

Sorry to say, I haven't been feeling too much like painting lately. Maybe a little burned out, but today out of nowhere, I decided to paint this little guy. He reminded me of Marty Feldman who I thought was hilarious when I was a kid.

He is painted on decorative paper and mounted on a heavy board - one of my favorite mediums.
